Sylvia Health came out of the Novo Nordisk Foundation BioMedical Design Fellowship Programme, a needs-based innovation programme at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. During four-months of clinical observations at the obstetrics and gynaecology departments of Slagelse Hospital, we encountered many problems within women's health, and witnessed the profound impact of pelvic organ prolapse on women's lives.
The scale and impact of prolapse shocked us, sparking a deepening interest that persisted throughout the programme. We met with and interviewed patients and clinicians from six countries, delving into disease fundamentals, prevalence, risk factors, stigma, and treatment options. Our immersion led us to a resolute belief that women deserve superior treatment options and that we could be the catalyst for change.
After the completion of the programme, we formed a company with a mission to deliver accessible treatment options for pelvic organ prolapse that improve outcomes for women. We secured funding from the Danish Innovation Fund, which enabled the initiation of our product development, which you can read more about here.

We understand there may be reservations about two male founders addressing a women's health issue like Pelvic Organ Prolapse. However, our determination to confront the challenges encountered during the BioMedical Design programme led us to discover the undeniable need in this area. The foundation of Sylvia Health is user-focussed design. While validating the unmet need during the prgramme, we engaged with over 200 women with prolapse via one-on-one interviews and targeted surveys. Since finishing the programme, every single aspect of our products have been, and will continue to be, tested by the women who will use them. We collaborate closely with women and professionals who share our commitment to addressing the specific needs of women with prolapse.
If you believe you or someone you know could contribute to our mission, whether as an advisor, user, employee, or founder, please don't hesitate to contact us.
