Our innovative device provides targeted support to correct vaginal bulging, offering a non-surgical alternative for women who can’t have, don’t want or are waiting for surgery. This supportive device addresses pessary limitations, providing quality of life and empowerment for users, and clinical and cost effective treatment for healthcare providers. We're determined to make something that actually works, so our medical grade prototypes are currently undergoing rigourous testing by women with prolapse.
Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when one or more of the organs in the female pelvis descend into, or out of, the vagina. This condition not only leads to pain and discomfort but also imposes significant mental and emotional challenges, hindering women's ability to fully engage in work, social activities, and family life.
1 in 12 women experience symptomatic prolapse - over 200 million women worldwide. Due to stigma and underreporting, the actual number is likely even higher, and prolapse incidence is growing. In the US alone it is projected to increase by 46% by 2050.
Despite its widespread prevalence and debilitating effects, prolapse often goes overlooked, and current treatment options frequently fall short. Surgery entails a painful recovery, prolonged lifting restrictions, a high likelihood of requiring additional procedures, and facing lengthy waiting lists. Half of women who use a pessary discontinue within 3-12 months - most often due to expulsion, erosion, discomfort & inefficiency.
We developed our first medical grade prototypes in Autumn 2023, following the end of the BioMedical Design Programme. Since then we've been focussed on testing and improving our products. Together with expert pelvic health physiotherapists, we've done over 40 functional tests with women with prolapse. This user-centred design approach has enabled us to iteratively improve our designs, so much so that towards the end of our functional testing phase, many women asked to take the prototype home with them.
As of summer 2024, we are close to the end of the next phase of testing: at home tests where women are using our prototypes on a day-to-day basis. So, does it work? Our testers say so, and we plan to make it even better.
Good question. We'd love to share the pictures, but we can't right now. Based on our encouraging results, we've written a patent. Rest assured we'll be sharing plenty of pictures soon!
Yes, but please note that we are currently focussed on Denmark. We are actively engaging with partners in the UK and EU to enable us to provide devices in those regions as soon as possible, followed by the rest of the world.
